From charming Victorian houses to mid-century homes in Houston, many buildings echo with history. While these structures carry the warmth and character of the bygone eras, they might come with hidden risks – particularly asbestos.
Asbestos was widely used in construction materials (such as insulation, roofing, and flooring) until the late 1970s, mainly for its durability and fire-resistant properties.
Texas’s hot and humid climate adds another layer of complexity – as it exacerbates the deterioration of ACMs (asbestos-containing materials), increasing the risks of fiber release. Asbestos can pose serious health risks if its fibers become airborne. If you are planning renovations or repairs, or want to ensure your home’s safety, it is essential to have a professional asbestos survey.
At CleanOne Environmental, we ensure your home is safe and asbestos-free.
Our asbestos survey is detailed and precise, with timely reporting in Houston.
If you suspect the presence of ACMs inside your home, contact us. Our experienced surveyors perform a detailed visual examination of your home. We check out common areas where asbestos may be present, including insulation, flooring, or ceiling tiles. Our teams use specialized tools to identify areas susceptible to the presence of ACMs.
After identifying spaces that may have ACMs, we collect samples with hand-held sampling kits. Sampling is controlled to avoid disturbing the material and releasing fibers into the air. Similarly, air sampling pumps collect air samples via filters, capturing airborne fibers. All samples are sealed and properly labeled in airtight containers to ensure integrity, before being sent to a state-licensed laboratory for analysis.
These samples are then analyzed in labs using PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy) or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy).
At the laboratory, advanced methods are used to analyze these samples. First off, PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) identifies asbestos in bulk samples. TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) is another sensitive technique that detects and quantifies smaller amounts of asbestos fibers. Lastly, PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy) analyzes the air samples to count the airborne asbestos fibers. After lab analysis, a detailed report is generated, including information on the presence of asbestos, its condition, and recommendations for safe management or removal.
